Save the Sharks

For the project campaign for good, I wanted to touch on the subject of the brutal shark fin trade in China. More than 70 million sharks are sadly cut from their fins and then tossed back into the ocean most of the time while they are still alive, leaving them to die slowly by drowning, attacks by other animals, or bleeding to death.
I wanted my ads to target a very irrational side of this trade that shark fins are consumed to help men’s impotence. This is the reason my ads surround the idea of shark fin soup and erectile dysfunction. I wanted my ads to show different stages of what the process looks like to create the growing popularity of the dish shark fin soup.
While it is a cultural dish in Chinese traditions, I wanted to target the ignorance and useless torturing and poaching of an animal. Starting with the fins on the boat. This ad shows off just how many fins can be cut away just in one session of fishing from these creatures. Then, with the second ad, I show off the soup that so many are now consuming for medicinal ancient practices, the third ad shows that even though they went through those steps they’re still disappointed with the fact that shark fin soup till will not cure their medical issues and potentially will cause further damage because of dangerous levels of mercury that sharks fins produce.
